Background
Over the past ten years a small group of people from the Somerfield Support Centre in Bristol (the Somerfield Ball Committee) has raised huge sums of money for a number of very good causes throughout Britain. These include:
- British Red Cross - caring for people in crisis.
- Provision - for the homeless and disadvantaged.
- The Royal Hospital for Children in Bristol - to help build the new children's hospital.
- The Grand Order of Water Rats - a celebrity charity organisation raising monies for just about every major charity in Britain.
- The Meningitis Trust - dedicated to leading the fight against meningitis.
- The Spinal Foundation - supporting people requiring spinal surgery and medical care.
- Muscular Dystrophy Campaign - helping people affected by this muscle-wasting disease and to carry out new research.
The first Somerfield Ball was held in 1996 and raised over £140,000 for charity. Since then each event has raised more and more money for charity. In 2000 the Somerfield Ball broke all records by raising over £1,000,000 for charity in a single evening a truly incredible achievement, and then this record was broken in 2002 and again in 2004.
Since 1996 the Somerfield Ball Committee has raised in total over £4,800,000 for charity, but the work does not stop there. For 2006, the team are planning the most spectacular Somerfield Ball Charity Ball ever, and with your help and generosity we can make it the most memorable ever. |
